What to Wear for a Dune Buggy Tour in Dubai
Booked your buggy adventure in Dubai? Here is exactly what to wear so you have fun, stay comfortable, and do not end up with sand in places you did not expect.
The short answer
Closed-toe shoes, breathable long sleeves and pants you do not mind getting dusty, sunglasses, and something to cover your head. Skip sandals, dresses, white clothes, and anything you are emotionally attached to.
Why your outfit matters more than you think
A desert dune buggy in Dubai is not a paved go-kart track. You will cross gravel, fine red sand, and (depending on the tour) salt flats and rocky terrain. Sand gets everywhere: into shoes, hair, ears. Wind from a 195hp Polaris RZR at speed kicks up dust constantly. Even a 1-hour tour will leave a fine layer on you, which is part of the fun.
Dubai dune buggy outfit: the essentials
- Footwear. Closed-toe sneakers or trainers. Hiking boots are overkill, sandals and flip-flops are not allowed (we will not let you board).
- Top. Breathable t-shirt or long sleeve. Cotton works fine in winter, technical sport fabric in summer.
- Bottoms. Comfortable trousers, joggers, or jeans. Shorts are allowed but you will feel pebble spray on your calves.
- Headwear. Cap or buff/bandana. Helmets are provided, but for the first 5 minutes before driving the sun is brutal.
- Eyewear. Sunglasses for daytime. Goggles are included with the gear, but most people prefer their own sunglasses underneath.
What to wear by season
Winter (November to March)
Mornings are 14 to 18°C, so bring a light jacket or hoodie. By 11 AM you will shed it. Evening sunset tours: jacket required, the temperature drops fast after sunset down to about 16°C.
Summer (April to October)
Daytime is 35 to 45°C. Light, breathable, light-coloured fabrics. Long sleeves actually keep you cooler than a tank top because of sun protection. We strongly recommend the 5:30 AM Early Bird or the Night Raid in summer, the afternoon is brutal.
What to wear by tour type
- Sunrise / morning tour. Light layers; jacket for the first 30 minutes, then off.
- Sunset tour. Long sleeves; sunglasses for the first half, warm layer for the ride back.
- Night tour. Windbreaker or hoodie. The desert at night is 8 to 12°C cooler than the city.
- Tours with dinner at the Bedouin camp. Same as above, plus a change of socks (sand sneaks in).
What NOT to wear
- Sandals, flip-flops, Crocs (banned for safety)
- Dresses or skirts (the harness is a 4-point belt)
- White or expensive light-coloured clothing (red sand stains)
- Loose scarves or jewellery that can catch in moving parts
- Contact lenses without backup glasses (sand under contacts is no joke)
What we provide
- DOT-certified helmet
- Sand-rated goggles
- Driving gloves (on request)
- Bandana / face cover
- Branded t-shirt on loan for the tour (returned at the end, not a gift)
Should I bring a change of clothes?
Honestly, not really. Most guests just brush off the dust at the end and head straight to dinner or back to the hotel in the same outfit. The sand brushes off cleaner than you think.
A few tips most people forget
- Wear contacts to the tour, not from it. Goggles plus contacts are misery if sand gets in.
- Tie long hair back. Helmet straps plus loose hair equals a tangled mess.
- Phone in a zip pocket, not loose. Phones bounce out of cargo pockets at 80 km/h.
FAQ
Can I wear shorts on a dune buggy?
Yes, but you may feel pebbles on your shins. Most repeat customers switch to trousers.
Do I need special clothes if I have never driven a buggy before?
No. A pair of sneakers, a t-shirt, and sunglasses is enough. Everything else (helmet, goggles, gloves) we provide.
Is there a dress code for the dinner option?
No. The Bedouin camp is casual: same outfit you wore for the buggy is fine, just bring a change of t-shirt if you want to feel fresh.
